for tis a season to be jolly!

the house of the happy bears has been a pretty busy one right after exams. a group of friends from sydney and melbourne came over to visit and this creates a wonderful excuse for a time of feasting at home. and the daunting task of cooking for 12 people was set and these are the dishes conjured up in 3 hours...

stir-fried bulgogi beef with shredded onions and carrots...the beef was thinly sliced from 4 pieces of sirloin steak (not all was cooked that night) and marinated overnight with light soy sauce, cooking wine, mashed garlic, sesame oil, sprinkle of sugar, pepper ( but the vital ingredient of nashi pear juice was left out because nashi pears were not in season back then)...

the rest of the spread includes steamed vegetarian chawanmushi-stewed egg with mashed pumpkin and a sprinkle of japanese seaweed...
sweet potatoes croquette coated with japanese bread crumbs which clarence happily mistook for prawn patties because of its golden brown shade...hahaha...i will ensure more promising ingredients in the future!
agedashi tofu made from firm japanese tofu which was drained before coating with egg white and cornflour for pan-frying. but alas, the sauce was a bit watery due to the lack of thickening agent on that night or it would have been so much nicer! :(

and last but not least, vietnamese wraps with grilled pork, shredded carrots, sprinkle of crushed peanut, lettuce, hoisin sauce and rice vermicelli as the appetiser which everyone happily took as part of the main course instead...sigh...what is a cook to do when the intentions of the dishes are poorly interpreted? hahaha
that's all for now folks!
as we all journey back home (except for our lovely june bear), i'm sure there'll be more yummy exploits to follow!
also stay tune for more of the yummy creations by other members of the house of the happy bears!
much love,
granny bear
